ARCHBISHOP KHOREN DOGHRAMADJIAN APPOINTED NEW PASTOR AT ST. STEPHEN’S CHURCH

On Sunday, May 18, on behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, the Chair of the Religious Council, Very Rev. Fr. Ardag Arabian, will officially install His Eminence Archbishop Khoren Doghramadjian as the Pastor of St. Stephen’s Church in New Britain, Connecticut. On this occasion, Archbishop Khoren will celebrate his first Divine Liturgy and deliver the sermon. 

Archbishop Khoren was born on March 4, 1965, in Jbeil, Lebanon. In 1977, he was admitted to the Seminary of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia. He was ordained deacon in 1981 and celibate priest in 1984. From 1984 to 1995, he served as a teacher, supervisor, and later deputy dean at the Seminary. During the same period, he also held teaching positions at the Levon and Sofia Hagopian College, the Yeghishe Manoukian College, and the Melanchthon and Haig Arslanian Jemaran (formerly Nshan Palandjian Seminary). In 1989, he received the rank of Vartabed from His Holiness Catholicos Karekin II, following the defense of his thesis titled “The Life and Literary Works of Blessed Catholicos Papken Gulesserian of the Great House of Cilicia.” In 1998, he was elevated to the rank of Dzayrakuyn Vartabed by His Holiness Catholicos Aram I. He was ordained bishop in 2005 and received the title of Archbishop in 2014. 

From 1995 to 2004, he served as the pastor of the Armenian community in Thessaloniki, Greece, and from 2000 to 2004, he was the Pontifical Vicar of the Armenian Church in Greece. From 2004 to 2016, he was the Prelate of the Armenian Church in Greece, and from 2017 to 2024, he served as the Pontifical Vicar of Cyprus. 

In addition to his theological formation, Archbishop Khoren earned a degree in history and international relations from Anatolia College in Thessaloniki in 2003, and in 2024 completed a master’s degree in theology and patrology from the University of Nicosia. He has collaborated extensively with Armenian and international press and has written, edited, and published numerous volumes.
