Letters from Armenia

Amalia – 06/12/25

This week’s letter is from Amalia,* who is sponsored by the Ladies Guild of St. Stephen’s Church (Watertown, MA).

(*) We use only the first names of the children and those who benefit from the program to protect their privacy.

Dear Sponsor,

This is Amalia’s mother, Narine, because Amalia doesn’t know how to write yet. She is going to start school this year, so she will write the next letter herself. Amalia will be six years old soon, and the more she grows, the more questions she asks about her father, our country, and our home. She hardly remembers her father – only from photographs and the stories we tell her. Sometimes she says that she doesn’t want a father from a photo but a real one, so he can play with her.

We lost our country and our home, and now we live in Yerevan, and we encounter new difficulties every step of the way. Believe me, all this would have been surmountable, if not for the loss of our loved one. Unfortunately, nothing can be changed, and every day I find strength to live, to work, and to fight, because I intend to raise my daughter and give her everything her father dreamt of.

I don’t want you to think that I am complaining or whining about the difficulties we face in this life – everything is in God’s hand and when He closes one door, He opens another. May God grant peace to this world, so that no other child has to see a war.

Dear Sponsor, I am deeply grateful to you for supporting our family.
