ARCHBISHOP ANOUSHAVAN TAKES PART IN GENOCIDE COMMEMORATION IN WASHINGTON
On Wednesday, April 19 in the evening, His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, participated in the commemoration of the 108th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, organized by the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues with the cooperation of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA). The event was held in the U.S. Capitol House Visitor’s Center in Washington D.C.
The Prelate gave the invocation on this solemn occasion, noting, “We will walk despite awful deniers, distortions, and oppression. For our patience is deeper than the oceans. Our aspirations are higher than the mountains. Our will and our commitment are as solid as granite. […] May we carry our yoke consciously and willingly for the ultimate victory of truth, justice, and peace.”
Two dozen US Senators and Representatives joined on Capitol Hill to warn against Azerbaijan’s ongoing attempts to ethnically cleanse Armenians in Artsakh. The program included remarks by members of Congress, including Armenian Caucus co-chair Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ), Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Sen. Robert Menendez (NJ), Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (CA), Sen. Anthony Padilla (CA), Rep. Adam Schiff (CA), Rep. David Valadao (CA), and others, who focused on a push for more committed U.S. efforts to protect the human rights of Armenians in the region against continuous aggression by Azerbaijan. The keynote speaker was Dr. Michael Rubin, a senior fellow of the American Enterprise Institute. Remarks were also offered by Robert Avetisyan, representative of the Artsakh Office in the United States; Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the ANCA; Aram Gavoor, board member of the Armenian Assembly of America; and representatives of Hellenic American Leadership Coucil, In Defense of Christians, American Friends of Kurdistan, and A Demand for Action.
