Letters from Armenia

ESTHER – 12/7/2023

The Prelacy’s Orphan Sponsorship program, established in 1993, remains the centerpiece of the Prelacy’s mission in Armenia and Artsakh. We are pleased to share some of the letters that children regularly address to their sponsors.

This letter is from Esther,* who is sponsored by the ARS Erebouni Chapter.

* We use only the first names of the children to protect their privacy.

Dear Sponsor,

This is Esther, born on March 19, 2013. I live in the city of Vayk, in Vayots Dzor. I go to 5th grade in school. This year, I do not participate in any after-school program’s classes because I have a lot of homework. I like self-education. I am learning English on the computer.

I live with my grandmother, mother, and two sisters. My father was killed on October 25, 2020. In 2020, we left everything we had in Artsakh to the enemy and relocated to Armenia. We lived through some very difficult and challenging days. During those days, your presence in our lives helped us to resolve many problems. Unfortunately, the cruel war in Artsakh brought again to others the things I had to go through before. My mother and I volunteered and were helping people from Artsakh. I heard many terrible stories.

I want to become brave and fearless like my father. I want to continue his unfinished business. I miss my father so much, and it is very difficult without him. I also get angry with this unfair world and that we spilled so much of our blood but still lost our Artsakh to the enemy. I want to serve my country by becoming an educated person and fighting for peace.

I am very grateful to you for taking a big part in all of this. May God bless you abundantly.
