| Archpriest Fr. Nerses Manoogian has undertaken the task of making the Narek (Gregory of Narek’s well-known “Book of Lamentation”) accessible to the Armenian faithful. To that end, he has done the following in this compilation:
a) In the first chapter of the book, he has collected a sample of prayers that are not crowded with adjectives and images, and categorized them under 41 subjects. b) In the second chapter, he has gathered examples of Gregory of Narek’s adjectives and imagery and categorized them according to their subjects. c) In the third chapter, he has harvested from the book many fragments of prayers that are one or more sentences long for use in social media outlets and grouped them by their subjects. d) The fourth chapter contains sections from the book in which St. Gregory testifies about himself and his book. The text used in this compilation is the English translation by Thomas J. Samuelian. |
