The Promise
As many of you know, the film “The Promise”, produced by Survival Pictures and financed by the late legendary Kirk Kerkorian, will be premiering in theater locations across North America on Friday, April 21, 2017. The film, set with the backdrop of the Armenian Genocide, is the first time a wide release film will feature our history in nearly 1,500 theaters in the US and Canada.
Haig Boyadjian has been brought on board by AGBU and is working closely with the film’s PR agencies and distributors, to ensure our people are aware of the necessity to see the film in local theaters on its opening weekend (April 21-23).
I am reaching out to you for support, since it is imperative for us as Armenians to stand behind this film and ensure its success.
The opening weekend’s box office sales are critical in securing a long theatrical run for the film. It is for this reason that we are encouraging everyone to mobilize their friends, family and communities to see the film in theaters April 21 to 23.
The successful coordination among various community leaders and entities will guarantee the film’s success at the box office on its opening weekend. We are confident you will all work in a concerted effort, aware of each other’s plans (whether independent or in collaboration) in organizing outings to local theaters.
Please note, as a major motion picture, the film’s distributors have already secured theater locations in the US and Canada. In other words, this movie is not available for private screening events at your local community centers or churches.
Here are ways in which you can support the film:
- Disseminate all promotional materials provided to you in this email.
The Dropbox link below includes electronic and print versions of postcards, flyers and posters. Please print and display/distribute accordingly at your physical locations (churches, schools, community centers and retails locations owned and frequented by community members). The electronic versions are meant for circulation and posting on your social media outlets, websites and e-newsletters.
- All organizations are being asked to not add logos to these materials.
- Hashtags to be used are:
#KeepThePromise #ThePromiseTheFilm #NeverStaySilent

- Mobilize groups to attend the opening weekend.
We need to sell out as many theaters as possible at various times throughout opening weekend (April 21-23). We are asking that all Armenians and Armenian organizations assemble groups to attend various showings. A full list of theaters and showtimes will not be released by the distributor up until 2 weeks prior to the official premiere. However, all parties interested in organizing group outings can email me at keepthepromise@agbu.org so that I can coordinate theater buyouts with the film’s distributors in advance. Here’s what a buyout entails:
- Specify date and time of film showing
- Purchase 100 seats (minimum guarantee for group sales)
- Be prepared to resell or donate at same price purchased
- Choose to organize independently or in collaboration with other community entities
- Approach existing non-Armenian partners who will also join in spreading the word about the film and expanding outreach.
- Treat a non-Armenian friend to a ticket to go see the movie with you.
I greatly appreciate your cooperation and willingness to #KeepThePromise. I look forward to working with you and assisting you in your efforts.
I can be reached at keepthepromise@agbu.org or on my mobile at 917-344-0310.
Warm regards,
Haig Boyadjian
