HOLY SEE LAWSUIT AGAINST TURKEY CONTINUES
As is known, on the centennial of the Armenian Genocide in 2015, the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, as the rightful heir to the historical Catholicosate of Sis, filed a lawsuit against Turkey, in a first legal step in the quest for justice.
After Turkey’s Constitutional Court turned down the complaint, the Holy See appealed to the European Court of Human Rights. The ECHR had recommended referring the lawsuit to the Court of First Instance in Turkey, which the Catholicosate’s legal team agreed to.
The case is now in Turkey’s Court of Appeals after the lower tribunal reached a decision a month ago. The Catholicosate’s legal team, led by His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, follows the developments closely.
