PRELATE PRESIDES OVER ST. SARKIS CHURCH’S ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

St. Sarkis Church of Douglaston (New York) celebrated its 60th anniversary on Sunday, May 15. This was a sold-out event with guests gathering in the beautifully decorated church hall to celebrate the rich history of the church, with an audience that included three generations. The artistic program included the Saturday School choir and violinist Diana Vasilyan, enlivening a memorable evening organized by the Banquet Committee, chaired by Dr. Louiza Kubikian.

His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, officiated the Divine Liturgy and blessed three plaques in memory of four exceptional individuals: Archpriest Asoghik Kelejian, Pastor of St. Sarkis Church between 1962 and 1991; Mr. & Mrs. Hovsep & Suzanne Hagopian, major benefactors, and Mr. Bedros Givelekian, Chairman of the Board of Trustees between 1983 and 2003. Their abnegated service to St. Sarkis Church was directly responsible for the survival of the church. There was a requiem service for the souls of major benefactors.

Mr. Arthur Hairabedian, one of the founders of St. Sarkis Church, was honored for his many years of service, while Rev. Fr. Nareg Terterian, Pastor, and Yn. Annie received special gifts from the auxiliary bodies.
