IN REMEMBRANCE OF NINA GARSOIAN

On Saturday, September 24, family, friends, students, and colleagues of Prof. Nina Garsoïan, who passed away on August 14th, held a video conference on Zoom to celebrate her extraordinary life.

Her students Archbishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Prelate, and Rev. Fr. Krikor Maksoudian opened the gathering with a prayer. Pianist Shahan Arzruni played Bach’s transcription of a Siloti organ prelude (BWV 555). There were remarks by her friends and colleagues Weslie Janeway and Charles and Isabelle de Lamberterie; her godchild, Ssu Weng; her nephew, historian Arsen Saparov; her student, Sylvie Merian (Morgan Library). Haig Utidjian sang Nerses Shnorhali’s hymn “Extended Hand,” and Magar Egmalian’s “The Nightingale of Avarayr.”

After the program was completed, Ronald Suny, Thomas Mathews, Ina Baghdiantz McCabe, Claire Mouradian, Lola Koundakjian, Elizabeth Brown, Sergio La Porta, Constantine Hatzidimitriou, Joseph Portanova, Jane Bishop, and Patricia Constantinian offered moving comments and remembrances of the late scholar.
