Letters from Armenia

VAHAGN – 1/12/2023

The Prelacy’s Orphan Sponsorship program, established in 1993, remains the centerpiece of the Prelacy’s mission in Armenia and Artsakh. We are pleased to share some of the letters that children regularly address to their sponsors.

This week’s letter is from Vahagn,* who is sponsored by Vahe and Hasmik Dombalagian.

* We use only the first names of the children to protect their privacy.

Dear Sponsor,

This is Vahagn from Artsakh. I live in Martakert. I am in 8th grade in V. Minasyan School.

My father was Hayk _____, who was martyred in Artsakh’s 44-Day War. September 26th left a very vivid memory in my life. We were all celebrating. It was the day of my cousin’s wedding. My father came back from his military positions for a couple of hours to participate in the ceremony. We were all full of joy and happiness. That day was the last day when my father and I shared happiness, and it has stayed firmly in my memory. I look at the photographs of that day and wish we could be together again.

My father was a deeply patriotic person and he taught my brother and me to be the same.

I am very proud that I am a worthy son of a hero, and I will always honor his legacy.
