Letters from Armenia

GEGHAM – 2/16/2023

The Prelacy’s Orphan Sponsorship program, established in 1993, remains the centerpiece of the Prelacy’s mission in Armenia and Artsakh. We are pleased to share some of the letters that children regularly address to their sponsors.

This week’s letter is from Gegham,* who is sponsored by Hagop and Ica Kouyoumdjian.

* We use only the first names of the children to protect their privacy.

Dear Sponsor,

I am Gegham’s mother and I will write to you in his name, because Gegham is only 3 years old.

My name is Gegham and I am 3 years old. I was born on November 2, 2019, in the village of Ghazarapat in Kashatagh region, in Artsakh. I was the first baby in our family.

My father worked for National Security, and he was home for 15 days and at work for the next 15. My mother graduated from university and started working as a teacher in our village school.

I was 10 months old when the war started. We left the village and came to Armenia. My father was killed on October 15 and that same day we learned that I was going to have a little brother.

My brother was born on June 9, 2021, and was named after my father, Arman. My brother is now one and a half years old, and we always play together. I love him very much.

Currently we live in Armenia with my mother, uncle, and grandmother.
