HERA MAKHOULIAN, NEW ANEC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Religious and Executive Councils of the Eastern Prelacy have announced the designation of Hera Makhoulian as new Executive Director of the Armenian National Education Committee (ANEC). Ms. Makhoulian had been a member of ANEC since 2019 and chairperson since 2022.
Born in Anjar, Lebanon, Ms. Makhoulian graduated from the local Haratch-Calouste Gulbenkian High School. She also obtained a B.A. in Armenian Language and Literature from the Hamazkayin Higher Institute for Armenian Studies in Beirut and taught at her alma mater and the Nishan Palanjian Jemaran in Beirut until her arrival in the United States in 2003. She teaches Armenian Language at the Hovnanian School in New Jersey, where he is also Head of Academics. She is about to finish her M.A. in Armenian Studies at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO, Paris).
Mrs. Houry Boyamian, the longtime former principal of the St. Stephens’ Armenian Elementary School of Watertown (Massachusetts), who recently retired after a distinguished 35-year-long career at the helm of the school, will replace Ms. Makhoulian as ANEC chairperson.
The current members of ANEC are Houry Boyamian (chairperson), Loucine Hovannesian (secretary), Lala Attarian, Dr. Vartan Matiossian, Margaret Nalbandian, Talin Daghlian, Maria Ebrimian, and Ardemis Meguerdichian,
Besides the Siamanto Academy, which will resume its activities on September 30 with Ani Nercessian as Principal, ANEC will also offer an online course for teachers of Armenian subjects, which will start on September 16 throughout May 2024.
