DR. JANET MOURADIAN MARKARIAN’S CELEBRATION OF LIFE
A program celebrating the life of Dr. Janet Mouradian Markarian, who passed away on February 25, was held on Sunday, June 2, at Uris Auditorium of Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City.
Her husband, Dr. Herand Markarian, opened the program reading his own philosophical poem that set the theme of the event, questioning the mystery of life and death.
His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, sent a statement praising Dr. Mouradian’s accomplishments, as did His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate. Both statements were read by Dr. Mouradian’s son, Gahmk Markarian.
Reverend Father Mesrob Lakissian, the pastor of St. Illuminator’s Cathedral, offered his sentiments praising Dr. Janet Mouradian Markarian.
The program included speeches by Dr. Amy Chadburn, professor of pathology at Weill Cornell Medicine; Arusyag Mouradian Melkonian, Chairperson of the ARS Central Executive; Sonia Bezdikian; Natalie Gabrielian; and Arevig Caprielian, member of Hamazkayin Central Executive. Janet’s grandson, Matteos Meschian, offered his thoughts and sentiments about his grandmother.
An artistic program included mezzo-soprano Hasmik Mekanejian; Dr. Mouradian’s granddaughter, Sarine Meschian (cello); and Ani Kalayjian (cello).
The comprehensive and touching program concluded with two poems by Isla Paschal Richardson and Clare Harner, which were emblematic of Dr. Janet Mouradian’s character.
