VARTAN MATIOSSIAN DISCUSSES MEDZ YEGHERN AT NATIONAL LIBRARY OF ARMENIA

On Friday, June 28, Vartan Matiossian, Executive Director of the Armenian Prelacy, gave a lecture at the National Library of Armenia on the notion of Medz Yeghern and the several layers of interpretation associated with the term that designates the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

The author of The Politics of Naming the Armenian Genocide: Language, History and ‘Medz Yeghern’ (I.B. Tauris, 2022), Dr. Matiossian discussed the fruits of his ten-year historical and linguistic research and the evolution of the concepts of “Medz Yeghern” and “Armenian Genocide,” including their use by Pope John Paul II and U.S. Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden. A lively Q & A session followed the lecture.
