ARMENIA SUMMER CAMP BRINGS JOY AND SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT TO CHILDREN’S LIVES
The Big Family Summer Camp, sponsored by the Eastern Prelacy of the United States, served as an opportunity for fun and a closer connection to God for the 112 children who attended the two gatherings on July 20-27 and July 27 to August 4 in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia
Archpriest Fr. Aram Stepanian, Emeritus Pastor of St. Stephen’s Church in New Britain, Connecticut, who has been the leading force behind the camp since its inception, was not able to join it. Under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Sahak Sahakyan, of Kecharis Monastery, the 20 staff members, who volunteered their time and energy to ensure everything ran smoothly, were all former campers who had taken part in the program for at least two years. They were deeply committed to ensuring that the new generation of campers received the same love and support that they once experienced.
Fr. Sahak answered the children’s questions and accompanied them as they shared their thoughts. For many of the new campers, particularly those from Artsakh, this was their first encounter with the teachings of God, with engaging discussions that planted seeds of faith in young hearts that may grow and flourish in the years to come.
The camp also included a range of activities that combined fun with learning, ensuring that the children were not only spiritually nourished but also enjoyed their time at the camp.
Plans are already under way to enlarge capacity to accommodate demand for at least 150 children for next year’s camp.
