On November 5, 2024, the American people made their voices heard. Now, it is our duty to unite in holding our elected officials accountable.
As Armenian Americans, we must remain clear-eyed about the challenges ahead. It was under the watch of newly elected President Donald J. Trump that Azerbaijan and Turkey launched their genocidal war against the democratic Republic of Artsakh and the Armenian nation in September-November 2020, and during his first term his administration took no action during a war that claimed thousands of Armenian lives and that led to Artsakh’s eventual fall.
His administration opposed Congress’ vote to recognize the Armenian Genocide. His expressions of praise for dictators and autocrats underscore our need for vigilance, considering the nature of the genocidal regimes of Turkey and Azerbaijan.
In honor of our martyrs and with a profound sense of self-respect, we hope that the president-elect’s conversation with His Holiness Catholicos Aram I on November 1 will not have been just electioneering to attract Armenian American votes. We urge him to turn his words into genuine action.
As stated, we must now fully exercise our rights and obligations as American citizens, demanding that our nation’s highest official commit to the values that truly make America great.
God bless America, and God help us all.
