ST. STEPHEN’S SCHOOL CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY, RAISES $500,000
On Saturday, November 16, more than 500 supporters, alumni, families, and friends gathered at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School (SSAES), raising an impressive $500,000 in donations for the school’s future. As the only Armenian language day school under the Eastern Prelacy’s jurisdiction, the milestone event honored the school’s history while reaffirming its commitment to providing high-quality bilingual education and nurturing future generations of Armenian youth.
The evening paid special tribute to Houry Boyamian, Principal Emerita, who retired recently after 35 years of devoted service to the school and Armenian education. Attendees, including His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Very Rev. Father Hrant Tahanian, Pastor of St. Stephen’s Armenian Apostolic Church, Rev. Father Archpriest Antranig Baljian, Pastor Emeritus, and area clergy, participated in a program filled with gratitude and reflection.
Kristina Ayanian, a St. Stephen’s alumna and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, served as mistress of ceremonies, guiding guests through a vibrant program. Highlights included remarks from SSAES President Hayr Hrant, an inspiring keynote address by Dr. Mary Papazian of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, and musical performances by vocalist Angelina Nazarian. Rev. Father Archpriest Antranig Baljian offered a heartfelt reflection on Mrs. Boyamian’s impactful leadership, followed by the screening of a tribute video produced by filmmaker Bared Maronian.
Mrs. Boyamian expressed her gratitude to all who have supported the school’s development, emphasizing the importance of continued backing, particularly from the growing number of alumni. She reflected on the school’s achievements and its role in fostering Armenian identity. Michael Guzelian, Chair of the School Board, announced ambitious plans for a new school facility and ongoing fundraising efforts to ensure the institution’s continued growth.
Archbishop Anoushavan delivered closing remarks, underscoring the vital role of Armenian education in preserving cultural identity and shaping future leaders. He praised the unwavering dedication of the church, school leadership, committees, and volunteers, expressing optimism about the school’s bright future.
The evening concluded with heartfelt expressions of gratitude and optimism for the school’s future. The $500,000 raised during the celebration highlighted the community’s steadfast commitment to St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School and its mission of advancing Armenian education and preserving cultural identity for generations to come.
