NEW BILINGUAL EDITION OF COMMENTARY ON THE NICENE CREED RELEASED FOR THE 1700TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE COUNCIL OF NICAEA

On the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea (325 AD), the Eastern Prelacy is pleased to announce the bilingual reprint of Commentary on the Nicene Creed by Archbishop Zareh Aznavorian (1947-2004).
The Nicene Creed (Havadamk) is the official declaration of faith for all churches. It was formulated and ratified at the First Ecumenical Council of the Church in Nicaea in 325 and later expanded in the 4th century in response to heretical teachings.
Archbishop Zareh was a prominent biblical scholar and a highly regarded member of the Brotherhood of the Catholicosate of Cilicia, a translator of the Bible and liturgical services from classical Armenian into modern Armenian, as well as a composer of religious music. His scholarly contributions include numerous books and musical scores.
Originally published by the Eastern Prelacy in 2013, the book is based on a 17-part lecture series delivered by Archbishop Zareh in Lebanon in 1999. His commentary examines the Nicene Creed line by line, offering a concise biblical interpretation. The book presents a synopsis of these lectures in 17 brief chapters: an introduction, three chapters on God the Father, seven on the person and mission of Jesus Christ, three on the Holy Spirit, and four chapters on the Church, baptism, and the last things—resurrection, judgment, and eternal life. An appendix includes two additional creeds used by the Armenian Apostolic Church.
The English translation was prepared by Deacon Shant Kazanjian, Director of Christian Education of the Eastern Prelacy.
As we commemorate this historic milestone, we hope this book will serve as a valuable resource for our faithful, deepening their understanding of the Nicene Creed—the official confession of the Christian Faith.
The publication of Commentary on the Nicene Creed was sponsored by St. Illuminator’s Cathedral (New York City).
The bilingual edition is available at the Prelacy Bookstore for $15. You can order it here.
