Letters from Armenia

Tigran – 03/27/25

This week’s letter is from Tigran,* who is sponsored by Raffi Ovian.

* We use only the first names of the children and those who benefit from the program to protect their privacy.

Dear Sponsor,

This is Tigran. I was born on September 2, 2008, in the city of Yaroslavl. After the death of both of my parents, I found myself in an orphanage. My aunt (father’s sister) found out about it, she became our legal guardian and took us to Armenia, where I have lived since with my brother and our aunt’s family.

It was difficult and took me some time to adapt to the life in Armenia, because I didn’t know anything about it: culture, language, or anything at all. Thanks to my aunt’s love and care, I learned really fast what I didn’t know before: how to read, write, and speak Armenian, as well as Armenia’s centuries old history and culture.

Currently, I am a 9th grade student at Smbat Shahaziz Public School #2 in Ashtarak city. I go to volleyball practice in the afterschool program.

Dear Sponsor, I want to let you know that my main goal in life is to become a doctor.

I am very grateful to my family for giving me the opportunity to have a happy life.
