FR. STEPHAN BALJIAN TO DISCUSS SACRED MUSIC AT STS. SAHAG-MESROB INSTITUTE

The next session of the Sts. Sahag-Mesrob Institute, an initiative of the Eastern Prelacy, will begin on Tuesday, April 15. Rev. Fr. Stephan Baljian, pastor of Saint Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church of Merrimack Valley, will present the unit on liturgical music. His presentation will include: introduction to the theology of sacred music, familiarization with the various types of church music and their usage in liturgy, the sharagank in liturgical, theological, poetic and musical analysis, familiarization with the octoechos tonal system and distinct melodic modules within each designated tone, overview of various attempts at modernization and harmonization of church music.
