PHILADELPHIA HOSTS MID-ATLANTIC REGIONAL SEMINAR
On Saturday, January 24, clergy and lay leaders from across the Mid-Atlantic region came together in a spirit of faith and fellowship at Saint Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for the third and final session of the Prelacy’s Regional Seminar Series. This meaningful spiritual and educational initiative was established to deepen unity among the faithful, nurture strong parish leadership, and enrich the administrative and pastoral life of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, led the opening prayer, invoking God’s blessings upon all in attendance. In his pastoral reflections, His Eminence spoke of the value of coming together as one body in Christ, noting that such gatherings strengthen faith, encourage mutual support, and renew a shared commitment to serving the Holy Church.
Ed Papazian, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Gregory Church, warmly welcomed the 28 participants, who traveled from near and far—despite the approaching winter snowstorm—to take part in this day of fellowship, learning, and service to the Church and its mission.
Executive Council Chairman Aram Sarafian, joined by members of the Executive Council, outlined the day’s agenda, which focused on fostering closer collaboration among parishes, strengthening administrative practices, and advancing the mission and vision of the Prelacy. The morning sessions included a thoughtful review of the Prelacy’s mission and priorities, along with an open discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing parish life today.
An engaging educational presentation by Very Rev. Fr. Boghos Tinkjian, Pastor of the host church, explored the historical origins of the two Catholicosates and their lasting significance within the Armenian Church. Col. Sarafian also led a session highlighting the rich and inspiring history of the Armenian Church in America, tracing its journey from the arrival of the first Armenian immigrant in 1618 to the establishment of the Eastern Prelacy under the spiritual jurisdiction of the Holy See of Cilicia.
Guided discussions, led by Aram Hovagimian, encouraged participants to share insights and experiences on important topics such as parish growth, donor stewardship, Prelacy services that support parish administration, and best practices for fostering consistency and excellence across parish communities.
A comprehensive report on the Regional Seminar Series will be presented at the Prelacy’s National Representative Assembly in May.
