Letters from Armenia

MARIAM – 3/9/2023

The Prelacy’s Orphan Sponsorship program, established in 1993, remains the centerpiece of the Prelacy’s mission in Armenia and Artsakh. We are pleased to share some of the letters that children regularly address to their sponsors.

This week’s letter is from Mariam,* who is sponsored Mark and Hasmig Phillips.

* We use only the first names of the children to protect their privacy.

Dear Sponsor,

I hope that you are doing well. I would like to tell you a bit about myself. This year I got promoted to 8th grade. To be honest, I can’t believe I am that old already. However, when I look at the younger kids in school, I realize that it’s my turn to teach them a thing or two. By the way, in 8th grade we have some new subjects such as sociology and basic military training, but my favorites are still Armenian Language and Literature.

You know, I don’t like winter. It is cold and to go play in the backyard one needs to put on hundreds of clothes; the world seems to become black and white in winter. However, I love New Year and Christmas – those are wondrous holidays. Every year we wait for those holidays with anticipation and celebrate them with joy.

When I graduate from high school, I dream of becoming a lawyer. I want to defend people and their rights.

I often pray for my family, my country, and your health. I am soooo grateful to you!

Love,

Mariam
