The first part of this study examines the history of Armeno-Georgian church relations from their origins (c. 300) to the First Council (Synod) of Dvin (505/6). The discussion of this period, revolving around four main themes, makes it abundantly clear that the communion of faith between the Armenian and Georgian churches had its roots deeply embedded in almost every aspect of the history of these two nations. The second part of the study inquires in the sixth century in general and in the period prior to and during the Armeno-Georgian church conflict in particular. The third part presents a complete English translation of 34 Classical Armenian documents that are relevant to the history of Armeno-Georgian church relations.
The study contributes to the understanding of an early chapter of the history of the Armenian Church.
