GEORGE MOURADIAN (May 2, 1927 – July 3, 2024)

His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, and the Religious and Lay Councils have learned with sorrow of the passing of George Mouradian, engineer, author, teacher, and an active member of the St. Sarkis Parish in Dearborn, Michigan, passed away on July 3 in Union Lake, Michigan. He was 97.

He was born in Detroit on May 2, 1927, to Vahan and Armenouhi Mouradian. He was the eldest brother to sister Alice. After graduating in technical studies from Cass Tech High School in 1945, Mouradian served in the Merchant Marines and later in the United States Army.

Mouradian later advanced his education at Wayne State University, earning a Master’s degree in Engineering (1952).  He married Rosie Hachigian in 1950. They were married for 73 years and were blessed with three children, Michele Mnatzakanian, Anita Granger, and Vaughn Mouradian, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

A trailblazer in many instances, he filled a need when necessary. Throughout the years he worked as a lifeguard, a teacher, a carpenter, a reliability engineer, quality control manager, and later in life as a census and election poll worker, always eager to try something new. He was employed at Ford Motor Company, Aerojet General, LTV Aerospace, Massey Ferguson, Rockwell, and AM General, always advancing his technical skills. He was also a member of ASQC and the Armenian Engineers and Scientists Association (AESA) and founded MAG & Associates.

Mouradian taught Quality Control at the American University of Yerevan for a summer in 1997. He also authored 13 books on various topics, such as Armenian Info Text and the novels Never to Die and The First Crusade.

A pillar of St. Sarkis Armenian Church, he served in many capacities, including Principal of Sunday School, National Representative Assembly Delegate and Board of Trustee Member. He co-initiated St. Sarkis Boy Scout Troop #1133, serving as a role model for young boys as Scout Leader for decades.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 18, in Fred Wood Funeral Home, Livonia, Michigan, and the funeral service will be held on Friday, July 19, at 11:00 am in St. Sarkis Church, Dearborn, Michigan, followed by US Army military honors and entombment in Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church or to the ARS Artsakh Fund.

Archbishop Anoushavan and the greater Prelacy family extend their condolences to Mr. Mouradian’s family. May God illuminate his soul. Աստուած հոգին լուսաւորէ։
