PRELACY COMPLETES SIX-PART EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ON BAPTISM-CHRISMATION

On Wednesday, February 26, the Eastern Prelacy concluded its six-part course on Baptism-Chrismation: The Foundation of Our Life in Christ. Over 70 people participated. Deacon Shant Kazanjian, the Director of Christian Education, conducted the sessions.

Over the course of six one-hour sessions, Dn. Shant walked the participants through the baptism-chrismation ceremony, highlighting its ritual movements and symbolism and paying close attention to the prayers and extensive scriptural readings. He presented a historical and theological commentary, with particular emphasis on scriptures—both the passages read during the ceremony according to the ancient Armenian tradition (Matthew 28, Ezekiel 36, Galatians 3, John 3, Romans 6, and Matthew 3) and those echoed and alluded to throughout the service.

These scriptural texts provided an indispensable lens for understanding the baptism-chrismation ceremony.
