Until the last few decades, it was predominant the hypothesis that the homeland of the Indo-European mother language—also known as Proto-Indo-European—had been located in Europe, and that the speakers of the Armenian language had migrated to the Armenian Plateau after the breakup of the mother language. Linguistic and archaeological evidence has been used to challenge that view, even advancing the view that Proto-Indo-European language had its origins in Asia Minor and the Armenian Plateau.
