Blessings in Bitter Cups is the story of a small clan of superb means whose lives were turned topsy-turvy by the twists and turns of history. The story covers a period of eighty-five years, beginning in 1915. In essence the book claims to be an historical novel, the historical parts of which were culled from multiple sources.
The family in the story was saved by a Kurdish clan whose chief the family in various ways. Saved thus, the family was able to witness the caravans of deportees from the towns and villages of Anatolia and Cilicia that came through Aleppo. They were driven southeast into the desert and to death by heat, shooting, hunger, and drowning.
Saved when World War I ended with the defeat of Turkey, the clan began to reconstruct their lives.
