St. Nerses of Lambron (Lambronatsi, 1153-1198), Archbishop of Tarsus (Cilicia), was one of the remarkable figures of the Armenian Church. He was a reformer and a harbinger of new and sincere ecumenical relations. He produced an immense output of work: fifty volumes of commentaries, hymns, poems, and translations from several languages. One of his famous works is the Synodal Discourse, which is the subject of the present volume, prepared by the late Archbishop Mesrob Ashjian (1941-2003), former Prelate of the Eastern Prelacy, in partial fulfillment of his Master of Theology degree at Princeton Theological Seminary. It includes and introduction, the life and work of St. Nerses of Lambron, an introduction to the Discourse and an English translation of the text.
