The challenge came from within the Church. Attempting to filter the Mystery of Redemption through the human mind, a priest from Alexandria named Arius question the divine origin of Jesus Christ. The 318 Church Fathers who convened at Nicaea in 325—including Bishop Aristakes, one of the sons of St. Gregory the Illuminator—were inspired to turn this critical challenge into a positive opportunity to lay the foundation of our faith, known as the Nicene Creed.

This booklet offers a succinct and important presentation of the essential history and achievements of the Council of Nicaea and how the Armenian Church has adopted the Creed of Nicaea. The booklet also commemorates the 1700^th anniversary of this significant event, upon which the following two ecumenical councils of Constantinople in 381 and of Ephesus in 431 further solidified the profession of our faith.
