Since 2003, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I has dedicated each year to a theme of special significance for Armenians, including our church, culture, or homeland. As part of this initiative, our prelacies focus their spiritual and community activities around that year’s designation, reinforcing our sense of spiritual and national identity.
Based on the special importance of Artsakh, as well as the deep concern over the consequences of the last war, His Holiness has proclaimed 2021 the “Year of Artsakh.”
The proclamation of the Catholicos will be read at the St. Gregory the Illuminator’s Cathedral of the Catholicosate in Antelias on Sunday, January 10, 2021. All the churches affiliated with the Holy See of Cilicia will read it too on the same day and once again the following Sunday.
In his proclamation, as a practical first step towards helping our families of Artsakh, His Holiness has urged Armenians to abstain from New Year’s parties and devote those expenses to our children of Artsakh.
