Rapid generational changes demand new pedagogical approaches. With this in mind, teachers from schools under the jurisdiction of the Armenian National Educational Council and their peers from Diaspora institutions held a virtual meeting the weekend of Aug. 21-22.
The meeting last weekend was attended by teachers not only from the East Coast but also from the Western Prelacy, France, Greece, Canada, and even Australia, who braved time zone differences not to miss this opportunity. It offers an inspiring picture of the Diaspora and its efforts to preserve Western Armenian and educate new generations in it.
Educator Ani Garmiryan, Senior Program Officer for the Promotion of Western Armenian at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, led last weekend’s seminar. Mrs. Garmiryan has been in charge of more than 50 hours of meetings and she is now heading the series on “New Educational Online Program for Diaspora Teachers,” which begins on Saturday, Aug. 28, and will extend through May 2022.
