PRELACY HOLDS SECOND SESSION OF SCHOOL TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM

The Prelacy’s Armenian Religious Education Council (AREC) held its second session of an 8-part Sunday School teacher training program on Monday, November 1, 2021, from 7:30-9:00 pm, with the participation of 26 teachers and directors. Very Rev. Fr. Sahag Yemishian, Vicar of the Eastern Prelacy, opened the session with a prayer. Four sessions of the training program will focus on church-related topics, and four sessions, on enhancing pedagogical skills and knowledge.

Mrs. Nevair Oranjian Babajanyan (pictured) presented the first of the pedagogical sessions on Monday focusing on Writing Objectives. Nevair holds a master’s degree in Educational Psychology. She is an adjunct lecturer at Queens College and Hunter College of City University of New York (CUNY) and the Florida Institute of Technology.

Nevair first highlighted Bloom’s Taxonomy and Depth of Knowledge Levels as related to writing objectives. She then discussed the basic essential elements of writing specific learning objectives. The session concluded with the participants working in small groups writing learning goals and objectives for a lesson that they might teach to their students.

Next month, Rev. Fr. Torkom Chorbajian, pastor of Holy Trinity Armenian Church of Worcester, Massachusetts, will speak on the Sacraments of the Armenian Church, on December 6, 2021.
