Letters from Armenia

MONIKA – 6/1/2023

The Prelacy’s Orphan Sponsorship program, established in 1993, remains the centerpiece of the Prelacy’s mission in Armenia and Artsakh. We are pleased to share some of the letters that children regularly address to their sponsors.

This week’s letter is from Monika,* who is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Vahe Dombalagian.

* We use only the first names of the children to protect their privacy.

Dear Sponsor,

This is Monika, daughter of hero Kamo. I am 7 years old. I was born in Karin Tak village. I was five years old when the war started, and I got very scared. My father took us to Yerevan and went back to the village right away. In the village, I used to go to kindergarten and had many friends there. I remember that my dad told me that we were going to have a big party on the occasion of my birthday and starting the school, because my birthday is on September 1st [Editor’s note: first day of school in Armenia and Artsakh].

Presently, we live in Stepanakert. I go to Khachatour Abovian School #1, where I am in 2nd grade. But I would like to go back to our village because in my memories of it my father is always present. Here, every step I take, my father is not with me.
