In Memoriam

AZADOUHI ZAROUKIAN (January 1, 1923-February 21, 2024)

Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, and the Religious and Executive Councils were saddened to learn of the passing of benefactor Azadouhi Zaroukian on Wednesday, February 21, in New York. She was 101.  

She was born on January 1, 1923, in Kastamonu, Turkey. She received her initial education at the Immaculate Conception School in Istanbul and ]hen attended the Sewing and Design courses of her mother, Negdar Zaroukian. She settled in the United States with her family in 1977. 

Ms. Azadouhi Zaroukian was a recipient of the Queen Zabel medal of the Eastern Prelacy in appreciation of her splendid donation of $4 million in 2016 to St. Illuminator’s Cathedral in New York. She also received a special medal from the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia for her contributions to the Armenian people, as well as for her support to the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia. She also received special awards from the Ministry of the Diaspora and the Republic of Artsakh. 

She lived a frugal life marked by love for the church and the Armenian homeland, which was manifested in her generosity towards both

The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 26, at 10:00 am at St. Illuminator’s Cathedral. His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, will preside over the ceremony.

The interment service will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery at 11:30 p.m., 130-04 Horace Harding Expressway, Flushing, New York.
