His Holiness Catholicos Aram I has given his blessing to a fundraising campaign for the Center for the Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of Artsakh, established in response to Azerbaijan’s occupation of the Armenian region and the ethnic cleansing of its native Armenian population as well as the Aliyev dictatorship’s policies of cultural genocide. The fundraiser, which began last Tuesday, will run through March 23.
His Eminence Archbishop Shahan Sarkissian, director of the Cilicia Library, conveyed the message of support from the Catholicos, stressing that the Holy See stands with Artsakh and its people.
Archbishop Shahan stressed the role the center would play as culture is one of the fundamental factors that forge our identity. Owning it will allow us to preserve Artsakh beyond its borders and with our material and moral support we will make a practical contribution to the renaissance of Artsakh’s culture.
