PRELATE HIGHLIGHTS PATH TO HUMILITY IN ADVENT SERMON IN PHILADELPHIA
On Sunday, December 22, His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, participated in the Divine Liturgy at St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in Philadelphia. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Boghos Tinkjian, Pastor.
In his sermon, the Prelate reflected on the day’s reading, in which Christ says, “All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.” He focused on the virtue of humility, saying: “Each week’s reading during Advent, leading up to the Feast of Theophany, further clarifies for us the mystery of the Incarnation of the Word of God. Indeed, the humility demonstrated by the Son of God for the salvation of humanity is the supreme virtue, by which, just as God became man, so too man becomes godlike.” Concluding his message, he invited the faithful to live according to the path of Christ, humbling themselves before God’s will and showing humility toward God’s children.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence presided over the Feast of St. Stephen the First Deacon and Protomartyr, as well as the Christmas program organized by the Sunday School.
