CATHOLICOS ARAM I JOINS LEADERS OF EASTERN CHURCHES IN CAIRO TO MARK 1700TH ANNIVERSARY OF COUNCIL OF NICEA

Under the auspices of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, and His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea was celebrated on May 17 and 18, 2025, at the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate in Cairo and at the Great Cathedral of St. Mark’s.

The celebration included meetings among clergymen of the region’s Oriental Orthodox Churches, a joint liturgy, and a spiritual concert.

Catholicos Aram I emphasized the historical significance of the First Ecumenical Council, highlighting its foundational role in Orthodox Christianity and the importance of the Nicene Creed.

With the blessing of His Holiness, the event was attended by Archbishops Gomidas Ohanian; Nareg Alyemezian; Shahan Sarkissian; Shahe Panossian; Magar Ashkarian; Mesrob Sarkissian; Torkom Donoyan; Bishops Sahag Yemishian; Bedros Manuelian; Dajad Ashekian, and Very Reverend Fathers Hovagim Panjarjian; Oshin Tchvalertanian, and Sarkis Aprahamian.
