PRIZES TO STUDENTS AT THE EDWARD BOYAJIAN SCHOOL IN YEREVAN

Dr. Vartan Matiossian, Executive Director of the Eastern Prelacy, during a recent work visit to Yerevan, on Wednesday, July 16, presented prizes to the top three students and a teacher at Elementary School No. 121, located in the Malatia-Sebastia district of the capital. The school, currently with a student body of 465, was renamed in 1994 after Armenian Lebanese writer Edward Boyajian (1915–1966), a prominent figure in Diaspora literature whose works had been banned during the Soviet era.

An annual prize for the three best students in Armenian subject was instituted by Hrair Boyajian and his wife Margaret, who passed away in 2024. They have provided for various needs of the school through the Eastern Prelacy and the St. Nerses the Great Charitable Organization. Two years ago, the award was extended to include the best teacher in those subjects.

Dr. Matiossian was accompanied by Tigran Galstyan, Executive Director of the St. Nerses the Great Charitable and Social Organization. The visitors, along with Principal Gohar Zakaryan, teachers, and prizewinners gathered at the principal’s office. Dr. Matiossian presented the certificates and prizes to students Sargis Poghosyan (8th grade, first prize), Levon Matevosyan (9th grade, second prize), and Mane Martirosyan (8th grade, third prize), and to Lala Khudaverdyan, teacher of Armenian language and literature. In brief remarks, he congratulated the students for their dedication and encouraged them to become our best hope for tomorrow. He also wished them to continue developing their knowledge of Armenian language, culture, and history, regardless of the direction they take in their future educational life. He also praised the work of Ms. Khudaverdyan to guide the students in their learning of Armenian language and literature.

The visitors and the school staff shared the traditional Armenian hospitality, discussing various issues related to the activities. Afterwards, Dr. Matiossian and Mr. Galstyan visited different sections of the school and inspected the renovation work carried out in various classrooms with the sponsorship of the Hrair and Margaret Boyajian Fund at the Eastern Prelacy
