ST. PAUL CHURCH HONORS CENTENARIAN PARISHIONER KATHERINE MEKAELIAN

Katherine K. Mekaelian, a longtime member of St. Paul Armenian Apostolic Church in Waukegan (Illinois), was honored on her 100th birthday during a special celebration. A Lake County resident, Mrs. Mekaelian has been part of the congregation since its consecration in 1966. She has served as editor of the parish bulletin since its founding that same year, sung in the choir, and remained an active member of the Ladies Guild. Friends, family, and parishioners gathered to celebrate her 100 years of life and decades of dedicated service to the church community.

Mrs. Mekaelian’s milestone reflects a lifetime of independence and civic engagement. As noted in a recent Chronicle Illinois profile, she continues to live on her own and remains involved in local affairs. During the event, church leaders expressed appreciation for her dedication and example of perseverance. A framed proclamation from Lake Forest Mayor Stanford Tack, presented during the celebration at the Deer Path Inn on Aug. 14, read in part: “Her century of life serves as an inspiration to all, embodying the values of kindness, service, and intellectual curiosity that enrich the fabric of our city.”
