IMMERSED IN THE WORD: ST. ILLUMINATOR’S LAUNCHES HEARING AND READING SCRIPTURE TOGETHER

St. Illuminator’s Cathedral held the inaugural session of its new program, Hearing and Reading Scripture Together—a unique new initiative to promote biblical literacy among the faithful—on Saturday, November 1

The session, focused on reading the entire Gospel of Mark in one sitting, was led by Dn. Shant Kazanjian, Archdeacon of the Cathedral and Director of Christian Education of the Eastern Prelacy. Dn. Shant offered a brief introduction to the Gospel, then read it in its entirety, interspersing his reading with short explanatory comments.

The day began with a brief morning church service commemorating the Feast of All Saints, followed by welcoming remarks from Archpriest Fr. Mesrob Lakissian, Pastor of St. Illuminator’s. It concluded with a luncheon table fellowship generously sponsored by Sonia Tchilingarian.

Twenty parishioners participated in this inaugural session, a few via Zoom. Based upon participant feedback, the Cathedral plans to regularly host similar sessions, each dedicated to the public reading of an entire book of the Bible.
