PRELATE CELEBRATES ST. SARKIS CHURCH’S NAME-DAY FEAST WITH YOUTH

On Sunday, February 1, His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St. Sarkis Church, in Douglaston, New York, on the occasion of the parish’s name-day feast. Referring to the martyrdom of St. Sarkis, his son Mardiros, and the fourteen faithful soldiers, the Prelate emphasized in his sermon the truth that, in general, the martyrdom of all saints represents a miniature reflection of God’s boundless love, which spares nothing for the salvation of humankind.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the traditional celebration took place in the parish hall, dedicated to the Salt and Light youth mission of the church, as well as the youth unions of its sister organizations. After opening remarks by Board of Trustees Advisor Veh Bezdikian, Vice Chairman Simon Bardizbanian delivered a brief report on the Board’s activities over the past year. Master of ceremonies Eddy Hazarian then introduced the youth’s program, with songs and musical performances. Archpriest Fr. Nareg Terterian, Pastor, spoke about the origins and development of the Salt and Light mission, expressing gratitude to all the parents who entrust their children to the Church. On this occasion, Archbishop Anoushavan presented a certificate of appreciation to Salt and Light and to its coordinator, Nyrie Bedrossian.
In his closing remarks, the Prelate extolled the Pastor’s initiative in developing this youth movement. He noted with joy that its tenth anniversary will be marked this coming October, and he especially encouraged cooperation among the youth organizations that exist within the community. The celebration concluded with a closing prayer and the singing of Giligia.
