PRELACY HOLDS FIFTH SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM

The Prelacy’s Christian Education Department held its 5th monthly Sunday School teacher training virtual program on Monday, February 7, from 7:30-9:00 pm, with the participation of 25 teachers and directors. His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan opened the session with prayer and blessed all the participants.

The topic was the Nicene Creed. It was presented by Mrs. Nayiri Baljian, who holds a Master of Arts degree in Religion with a concentration in Education and is currently the Sunday School Director of St. Stephen’s Armenian Apostolic Church of Watertown, Massachusetts.

Mrs. Baljian first presented a brief overview of the historical background leading up to the first two Ecumenical Councils, Nicea in 325 AD and Constantinople in 381 AD, where the Nicene Creed was formulated. She then highlighted the structure of the Creed with its essential scriptural beliefs, noting the distinctive features of the Armenian version of the Creed. She concluded by offering ways Sunday School teachers of different grade levels might be able to use and teach the Nicene Creed.

Next month, Mrs. Nevair Oranjian Babajanyan will present the third of her 4-part series on enhancing pedagogical skills, Teaching Strategies, on March 7.
