The UCLA conference series, “Historic Armenian Cities and Provinces,” was organized with the purpose of exploring and illuminating the historical, political, cultural, religious, social, and economic legacy of a people rooted for millennia in the Armenian Plateau.
Armenian Baghesh/Bitlis and Taron/Mush was the second of the conference proceedings to be published. This beautiful, rugged land in the south-central sector of historical Armenia is known to have been one of the earliest centers of Armenian settlement. It was here that evolved Baghesh and Taron, which became a part of the medieval principality of Turuberan and later the administrative districts of Bitlis and Mush.
