This latest publication from the prolific and thought-provoking pen of Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia was written in April-May 2020, during the global outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The urgent call spelled out in these reflections is twofold: first, humanity should respond in faith and hope to situations of crisis, uncertainty, and anxiety; and second, ethical values should challenge anthropocentrism. The pandemic has revealed that no person, society, or nation is immune or invincible, and that the future of humanity is extremely shaky. Forces destroying life, values altering life, and practices corrupting life surrounds us, often behind catchy labels. The very fabric of life is endangered morally, spiritually, physically, and ecologically. |
