PRELACY JOINS NATIONAL COUNCIL OF CHURCHES IN 75TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IN BOSTON

The 75th anniversary of the National Council of Churches (NCC) was recently commemorated with a special gathering in Boston from October 13 to 16. Participants from around the nation assembled for meetings, worship, celebration, and reflection on the ecumenical journey that had brought them to that day, and for the work that lies ahead. The 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea was also commemorated.

The Eastern Prelacy’s Ecumenical Officer, Very Rev. Fr. Hrant Tahanian, was among the participants. The Armenian Church has always been highly involved in and encouraged the ecumenical movement, both at the international and local levels. As His Holiness Catholicos Aram I affirms: “Ecumenism is not an option, but an imperative in the life of the Church.”

Each day, the participants met in a different Boston-area church community: the Maliotis Cultural Center at Hellenic College Holy Cross; the Cathedral Church of St. Paul; the Museum of African American History; and Holy Trinity Armenian Church of Greater Boston.

His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, was a guest of honor during the installation service of the new NCC Board Chair, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, which took place in the Holy Cross Chapel.
