CATHOLICOS ARAM I AND LEGAL TEAM REVIEW CASE AGAINST TURKEY SEEKING RETURN OF THE HISTORIC SEE OF SIS

His Holiness Catholicos Aram I reviewed the lawsuit filed against the Republic of Turkey over the return of its historic seat in Sis (present-day Kozan, in the province of Adana) with the Holy See’s legal team, reported the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia on January 28.

The case is now before Turkey’s Supreme Court of Appeals (or Court of Cassation) following its dismissal by lower courts. The appellate court is the previous instance to the Constitutional Court, the highest legal body in the country.

In a meeting with legal team members Dr. Nora Bayrakdarian, Prof. Teni Simonian, and attorney Cem Sofuoğlu, the Catholicos went over the case and discussed next steps. The Holy See originally filed the lawsuit in 2015.
