NEW PRELACY RELEASE BY ARCHPRIEST FR. NERSES MANOOGIAN EXAMINES MAJOR COUNCILS OF THE ARMENIAN CHURCH

“The Important Councils of the Armenian Apostolic Church through the Centuries,” by Archpriest Fr. Nerses Manoogian, Pastor Emeritus of St. Gregory the Illuminator Church (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), has just been released by Sis Publications, an imprint of the Eastern Prelacy. The book, a translation of the original in Armenian published in 2024, provides detailed accounts of sixteen such councils held between 354 and 1361. Those meetings have been selected because of their treatment of doctrinal issues with other churches, their special agenda, or their reforming character within the Armenian Church.
In his preface, Archpriest Nerses notes that any member of the Armenian clergy participating in the ecumenical movement should be aware of the identity of the church they represent. “It is difficult to cooperate with someone who does not know their identity,” he writes, “whereas it is a pleasure to collaborate with someone who does.”
